What a nice and interesting interview with Claudia Falcao in Arnhem! Claudia is a student of the Circular Fashion Online Programme at Wageningen University. The morning went by quickly speaking about amazing topics such as designing for sustainability, zero waste and fashion, natural materials, producing locally , handmade clothing and conscious consumers.

What a nice surprise to be approached by a group of Belgian Vives University students who created a social business called "Wasted Potential", as a response to the polluting Fast Fashion industry.

Wasted Potential : https://www.wastedpotential.be/  intends to promote sustainable fashion and  healthy consumerism. It educates the youth regarding trends and responsible fashion.

There is hope in our youth that wants a better world for older , current and future generations. 

They receive orders for their own t-shirts, made of recycled materials, to avoid over production, which will save resources while promoting responsible consumption and environmental awareness.

In their mission and vision, they clearly explain why sustainability in the fashion industry is crucial to protect our environment.

With great pleasure, as founder of a sustainable fashion online business, I started working as a part-time Lecturer International Management for the Master Program Innovative Textile Development at Saxion University of Applied Sciences.

It was an incredible experience sharing the classroom with international students engaged into making a huge sustainable difference in the textile industry. Their work and research paid off later on when they presented their final project results pitching and defending their research and perspective.

It has been an awesome experience to take part in this project with kind and professional colleagues, as well as with curious and fun students. Thank you all !

Partnerships for sustainability are incredibly important. We have partnered with Sweatcoin to launch a campaign starting on February 28, to support the Stop Plastic Pollution WWFcampaign.

A new year, new projects, new plans and new partnerships. We are always looking for fashionable products that are conscious and sustainable. Guess what? We found a new partner : GreyderLab, a Dutch brand that designs and manufactures shoes and sneakers made of certified, organic and recycled materials. Not only that but their awesome designs are fashionable and modern. 

Their products for men and women are designed to look cool but also to be conscious of what you are wearing. You have beautiful booties made of certified LWG leather with recycled soles but also sneakers made of recycled canvas and soles of sugar cane. 

Innovation does not stop in the sustainable fashion industry an consumers have the last word on the future of an ethical fashion industry that is good for the planet.

Het is een moeilijk jaar geweest voor iedereen, maar vooral voor degenen die steun nodig hebben van internationale organisaties. In tijden van wereldwijde pandemieën hebben kinderen van nederige afkomst extra hulp nodig om te overleven. Daarom hebben we besloten een donatie te doen, wat veel voor ons betekent. Dankzij onze klanten kunnen wij deze bijdrage leveren voor een betere wereld. Het voelt echt goed om te weten dat we vanuit onze onderneming een verschil kunnen maken aan de andere kant van de oceaan.

We are very happy with the results of our creative and innovative projects, always thinking on how to make our fashion more sustainable.

Our atelier in Peru is a big part of this process. When they mentioned a new type of eco-friendly fiber was available in the market, we had no doubts we wanted to work with it.

This fiber is made of organic cotton and alpaca wool, therefore 100% biodegradable and zero waste. Moreover, it was free of any chemical dyes, it is pure in its natural colors. Therefore, perfect!

We decided to invest in it and we are very happy with the results. Love it!

April is an awesome month for the sustainable fashion industry. We celebrate the appreciation to all of those millions of workers all over the world during Fashion Revolution Week, by promoting awareness regarding " Who Made My Clothes? ", asking whether they work under good and fair conditions. Awareness is the first step to positive change. Do not be afraid of asking retailers regarding their suppliers and the working conditions they support.

We do also celebrate "Earth Day", the recognition to our planet and to the only home we have to live on. Taking care of our planet is taking care of ourselves!

Celebrating International Women's Day is always a fantastic experience when you share your business experiences with likeminded people. This time there was an international awareness day for business women all over the world. We were asked to share our perspectives and send a message to young women, who may see in us role models, in order to start an enterprise.

My sending was chosing to be published and I am very grateful for that.

It’s probably the biggest challenge of the 21st century: the changing climate. Consequences of flooding due to heavy rainfall, heatwaves, and draughts have an increasing impact on our daily lives. How we can adapt to these consequences is the main subject of the Climate Adaptation Week Groningen (The Netherlands) from Tuesday 19 until Monday 25 January 2021. It is the run-up festival to the Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) on 25 January 2021, where world leaders will unite online to talk about concrete global actions concerning climate adaptation. Groningen is providing substantive content to that summit from youth, Nobel Prize Laureates and IPCC member.

It was a wonderful learning experience to join and interact live with like-minded people . Thanks for such interesting forum! 

2020 has been a challenging year but it has opened a wide array of chances and opportunities. For Bello & Eco, it has been a confirmation that more people are aware of the social and environmental impact of the fashion they wear.  More and more clients trust the quality and the social responsibility of our beautiful collection.

Every time our clients purchase an item of our own Bello & Eco Alpaca wool collection, they make the lives of Peruvian children in Huaraz much better. Their mothers work in a safe environment, are paid well and feel good making our clothes. At the same time, they are empowered contributing to their home finances and doing their best for the education of their children.

Nothing makes us happier, knowing that we can keep investing in this small Peruvian atelier, which makes our dresses, sweaters and cardigans with much love and dedication. A virtuous circle in which all are happy, the makers and our clients.  Our best wishes for all !

This month we have been interviewed by university and high school students regarding the influence of SDG's when doing business. Obviously, being a social entrepreneurship, diverse SDG's are part of our mission, vision and every day work.

- SDG1 , SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 10 are the core of our continuous investment in a women's knitting working association that makes our beautiful Alpaca wool collection.

- SDG 13 that promotes climate action, is represented in our collection that is exclusively made of natural fibers, which are zero waste, biodegradable, long-lasting, strong, warm, anti-transpirant , anti-allergic and certified as organic.

- SDG 12 is part of our mission and vision since we promote responsible comsumption and production, checking the transparency of our supply chain. Loving the SDG's !

Can you imagine buying and wearing a piece of clothing at least 30 times?

If the answer is no, then altering your approach to purchasing clothes is more important than ever. We need to start thinking of our clothing as an investment to treasure, rather than something that is so easily disposable. Did you know that the fashion industry is actually more devastating to the planet than the airline industry? Yep; jeans are more of a problem than jets! Collectively, we can move toward a more conscious model of clothing consumption. Our goal is to help you wear a garment at least 30 times. The WearMe30Times campaign is officially launching in Milan on 22nd October 2020. We will be launching both physically and virtually (it is 2020 after all), to allow all partners to join in.

Op 24 september ging de Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week weer van start. Dit jaar zonder spraakmakende shows, maar juist met de focus op transparantie in de winkelstraten. Bello & Eco deed me! 

Ze lieten de duurzame stappen zien die modezaken en merken maken. Ook geven zij hun uitdagingen mbt verduurzaming aan.  Het volledige programma werd bekend gemaakt met workshops, exposities, swap parties, repair café's , modeshow's , Instore events & pop-up stores en documentaire's .

Ondanks de corona crisis is het een geweldige week geweest!

We are very proud to have been able to cooperate with Lisa Poelen in achieving her MSc in Entrepreneurship at the UvA and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Her thesis researches the decision-making process of the sustainable fashion entrepreneur. It was based on interviews to 11 sustainable entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. 

Interesting findings: adaptability, cooperation, innovation, awareness, settling for sustainability, flexibility, wise use of resources.

Diverse bedrijven en instellingen in Delden laten zien zich verbonden te hebben aan de campagne door het oranje logo bij de deur met daarop "FAIRTRADE GEMEENTE, wij doen mee" . De webshop Bello & Eco verkoopt alleen maar eerlijke en dus ook fairtrade kleding. Fairtrade en het keurmerk Max Havelaar zorgt ervoor dat kleine boeren in ontwikkelingslanden een eerlijk loon naar werken krijgen waar zij van kunnen leven en hun kinderen naar school kunnen in plaats van mee te moeten werken.

Interesses liggen bij onderwerpen zoals kinderarbeid, dwangarbeid, grondstoffen, een leefbaar loon, watervervuiling en het gebruik van chemicaliën, water en energie. Fashion accounts for around 10% of greenhouse gas emissions from human activity, but there are ways to reduce the impact your wardrobe has on the climate. Here some tips to have a low fashion footprint. Don't forget to be safe and help each other in this time of crisis.

Het begon bij de documentaire ‘True Cost’, die laat een kijkje achter de schermen van stof naar kledingstuk zien. Beelden van huidige omstandigheden in de mode-industrie worden getoond en welke impact een kledingstuk op de wereld en mensheid heeft. Hieruit ontstaat een besef dat de kledingindustrie zeer mensonterend en milieuvervuilend is. 

Het doel van het onderzoek van Saxion Fashion & Textile Technologies student Lusing Chen is : kennis vergaren over duurzame kleding en de huidige informatievoorzieningen ervan. Daarnaast inzicht verkrijgen in de mogelijke verbeteringen van de informatievoorzieningen omtrent duurzame kleding, die aansluiten bij de wensen van de jonge, bewuste vrouwen in Nederland. Als laatst inzicht verkrijgen in de belevingen van informatievoorzieningen over duurzame kleding bij de jonge, bewuste vrouwen in Nederland.

Het is super interessant om de afstudeerscriptie van Lusing Chen te kunnen begeleiden.

De wereld om ons heen verandert. De behoefte aan plantaardige grondstoffen die fossiele grondstoffen kunnen vervangen groeit, evenals de vraag naar groene energie en biobased producten. De Biobased Economy is sterk in opkomst en krijgt in Boxtel volop de ruimte. Door clustering van GreenTech activiteiten ontstaat samenwerking en synergie tussen bedrijven en onderwijsinstellingen. Boxtel realiseert de GreenTech Incubator; een iconisch gebouw waar bedrijven kunnen experimenteren, waar startups kunnen groeien en waar een ontmoetingsplek komt. Niet alleen laagdrempelig samenwerken aan experimenten, prototyping en marktintroducties, maar juist ook samenwerken bij het tackelen van uitdagingen op het pad naar een duurzamere, circulaire economie. De koers kan nu in samenspraak met bedrijven, onderwijsinstellingen en andere partijen bepaald worden. GreenTech Park Brabant wordt uniek.  Bello & Eco doet mee. Geweldig!

Wat je draagt, heeft impact op andere mensen en het milieu. Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week wil zoveel mogelijk consumenten daar op positieve wijze bewust van maken door jong talent, spraakmakende collecties en innovatieve ontwikkelingen in de spotlights te zetten.Dit jaar doet Bello & Eco mee aan de 'Ready to Wear' modeshow in de Oude Markt, Enschede op 10 oktober van 16:00 t/m 20:00 uur. Wij kijken er naar uit!

De ASN Bank Wereldprijs is een uitdagend traject voor startende duurzame ondernemers. Door deelname maken ondernemers kans op training, coaching, publiciteit én een geldbedrag. Voor talloze ondernemers is de ASN Bank Wereldprijs een zeer succesvolle springplank gebleken.

Wij doen dit jaar mee! 

Op 6 juli jl deden wij mee aan een cultureel evenement waarbij ontmoeting tussen de verschillende culturen centraal staat.

Door het diverse aanbod van verenigingen, stichtingen, bedrijven en geloofsgemeenschappen trekt Kleurrijk vele bezoekers die internationale hapjes kunnen proeven, naar muziek luisteren, schilderen maar ook meer over duurzame kleding en accessoires weten.

Wij kregen veel complimenten van de bezoekers. Bedankt daarvoor. Tot volgend jaar!

Op tweede Pinksterdag, maandag 10 juni, vond het Fair Fashion Festival in Groningen plaats, een initiatief van Stichting Young & Fair. Een dag dat volledig in het teken stond van duurzame mode, onder andere met een markt en modeshow,  verschillende lezingen om te laten zien wat er allemaal mogelijk is op het gebied van mode en duurzaamheid,  een documentaire over hoe jij het verschil kan maken of zelf aan de slag gaan in het inloop atelier. En dit alles onder het genot van een hapje, drankje en heerlijke muziek. Bello & Eco deed heel graag hieraan mee met een mode show en het aanbieden van eerlijke en duurzame kleding. Hartelijk bedankt aan alle bezoekers voor hun feedback en complimenten. 
Hoe fair ga jij? 

There is trade, and then there is 'Fair Trade', which means that farmers and producers in developing countries will receive a fair price and a better deal. Last Friday, the municipality Hof van Twente received the title 'Fairtrade Gemeente' from the national organization, recognizing businesses that sell diverse Fair Trade products in diverse sectors such as food, drinks and fashion encouraging the achievement of sustainable development goals worldwide. We were very proud to be able to show how beautiful and fashionable fairtrade fashion can be. We received many compliments and good feedback from all attendants, including the Hof van Twente mayor, who is an enthousiastic supporter of fairtrade fashion.

Fair fashion keeps attracting the attention of more women. We were gladly surprised when we got an invitation to hold a discussion session on sustainable fashion for the Dutch women's association 'Vrouwen van Nu', local chapter in Delden. A presentation was held explaining that sustainable fashion is made with respect for people & planet. The production is fair, decent salaries, factories are green, have a social or environmental background and the fibers used are organic or made with respect for the environment. Many questions were asked and ecofriendly fashion was shown. What a nice feeling to know that more and more people are conscious about their fashion choices. Thanks to 'Vrouwen van Nu', in Delden. A super interview starting the year with Marianne Hutten from the Hof van Twente Sustainable Award 2019. As a previous participant they wanted to know how my project was going. And the last activity of 2018 was a superb interview of a team of students doing research on sustainable fashion. They study at Lelylstad High School and have set up a website in which they present their findings on their topic: ecofriendly businesses. Most important of all is the fact that the youth is being encouraged to research and support sustainable businesses. So, there is hope out there and it is a nice closing of 2018. In the first week of November, we were lucky enough to meet Peruvian sustainable fashion manufacturers during the Ecofriendly Fashion Fair in Lima, Peru. We were gladly surprise with the innovation, creativity, energy and enthusiasm of these young entrepreneurs. Their products were of great quality, with a strong social commitment to make positive changes in society, and of magnificent organic fibers. Even more, the fact that some shoes and wallets were made of fish leather, was amazing. leather made of discarded fish skin, what else would you want??? Reusing what is being wasted and creating awesome shoes of it, is truly fantastic. We hope that we can bring these sustainable beauties to the Netherlands next year. I will keep you posted.

Van 5 t/m 14 oktober is de Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week. En Bello & Eco heeft haar bijdrage ingeleverd tijdens deze week. Een week waarin we duurzame mode vieren en in de spotlight zetten. En om maar gelijk met de deur in huis te vallen: we willen je vragen zeven jonge designers te ondersteunen dit mogelijk te maken.   
De kledingindustrie is na de olie-industrie de meest vervuilende ter wereld. Een kwart van alle pesticiden in de landbouw wordt gebruikt in de katoenteelt. Voor de productie van kleding zijn enorme hoeveelheden water nodig. Textiel is goed voor tien procent van de wereldwijde CO2-uitstoot, en bijna de helft van de afvalwaterproblemen in de wereld heeft te maken met de textielproductie. Een zesde van de wereldbevolking werkt in de kledingindustrie. Daar zitten vooral mensen uit ontwikkelingslanden bij, die vaak niet kunnen rondkomen van hun inkomen. Daarnaast kopen we met zijn allen veel te veel kleding, die we veel te kort gebruiken. Inmiddels zo'n 100 miljard kledingstukken per jaar. En die kledingstukken gebruiken we de helft minder lang dan 15 jaar geleden, met enorme afvalbergen tot gevolg. Zie nog meer op deze link:

It is always exciting and interesting talking to students about sustainable fashion. Recently, we visited the ROC van Twente, Fashion & Textile program, in Enschede, where we had a nice interactive workshop along with an online game to adress topics such as fair fashion, organic fibers, the fashion industry and labor issues, social businesses, ecofriendly fashion certification and a transparent production process. The younger generations are our future and we definitely think that if they engage now in sustainable actions, the future is bright! Thanks to Marieke Egbering and to the students,  it was a nice experience being there!

Hof van Twente is een gemeente met gezellige dorpen, fraaie landgoederen, monumentale boerderijen, molens, musea en een diversiteit aan kunst.

Het coulisselandschap is een geweldig decor voor mooie fiets- en wandeltochten.

Kleurrijk is een jaarlijks evenement voor alle leeftijden waarbij ontmoeting tussen de verschillende culturen in de Hof centraal staat.

Bezoek deze dag en doe mee met diverse (gratis) activiteiten op het gebied van sport, cultuur (muziek, dans) en een proeverij.

Bello & Eco deed mee aan een geweldige internationale modeshow. Bedankt voor de positieve reacties over duurzame mode!

Onlangs hebben wij meegedaan aan een onderzoek gericht op duurzame producten.  Bello & Eco werd gekozen omdat onze visie heel goed bij het onderzoek past.

Het doel van het onderzoek is te bepalen wat voor product interessant is en waar de klant behoefte aan heeft voor een bedrijf die tassen maakt van hergebruikt leer. Deze tassen worden gemaakt met een persoonlijk verhaal door een geliefd kledingstuk als voering te verwerken. Na het produceren van een tas blijven er alsnog snijresten over. Met deze resten kunnen er nieuwe producten ontwikkeld worden, om een zo duurzaam mogelijke productcirkel te creëren.

Wij vinden fantastisch dat studenten zich vaker richten op zulke belangrijke onderwerpen .

Vandaag een leuk en interessant bezoek gehad van Myrna Ellenbroek van Saxion Deventer.  Zij wil open ateliers creëren voor duurzame fashion designers waar ze het hele productie proces tot aan de verkoop kunnen doorlopen. Echt een pittige uitdaging, vind ik. Zij wil een stap maken richting een transparantere fashion wereld.

Aangezien Bello & Eco een sociale onderneming is, is het voor ons zeer belangrijk om contact te houden met de jongere generaties, studenten en afstudeerders zodat duurzaamheid in de textielindustrie en in de hedendaagse samenleving belangrijker wordt.

The last news of the year: two fantastic articles about Bello & Eco . A couple of weeks ago we were asked if we wanted to give an interview to the Tubantia newspaper regarding sustainable business and fashion. We were thrilled! The more people know about sustainable fashion the better. The interview went well, a very nice and open conversation including some nice pictures. The article was posted on the Tubantia newspaper on Friday December 22, a very nice Christmas gift! The other surprise was that an article based on this interview also appeared online at www.ondernemer.nl . This time the focus was entrepreneurship and sustainability. We never thought we would get this far but we have enjoyed every minute of it. Business for good is always good business. Happy New Year hoping for a more sustainable 2018!

On July 21, 2017 we started a new strategy to bring our clothes closer to our customers. The result was popping-up in Enschede on a well-known street in the center of Enschede.

Our clothes and especially the hats, received compliments from Dutch, German and other international customers.

It was a nice experience that we will keep trying in other cities in the Netherlands.

Pretty soon we will take part in the Dutch Fashion Sustainable Week 2017.

On May 20, 2017 Bello & Eco participated as a guest in the International Culture Festival of the University of Twente student association La Voz by providing two workshops on Sustainable fashion.

It was a delightful and interesting experience to be able to interact with diverse international students and discuss sustainable fashion topics.

Two lucky students , winners of an online sustainability game, took home an eco-friendly t-shirt. We are looking forward to being able to interact with young students everywhere.
